After our furnace went down for four days over the New Year’s holiday weekend we decided we needed an alternative form of heating in case the furnace or power goes down in the winter.
We actually purchased the stove while we were waiting for repair parts for our furnace. Initially we went with a fireplace insert for the current fireplace but, after the installer came out to check our installation, he recommended we get a free-standing stove to put on our fireplace hearth. Because our firebox was oddly shaped and not quite deep enough for the insert the stove was a much better option. And it looks fantastic.
We now have a soapstone and cast-iron wood burning stove ready to be broken in and used to heat our home. I’m looking forward to cutting and stacking wood and burning a LOT less propane.
No post from me would be complete without photos! Here are a couple in-progress and finished shots.
